Child Support
For all divorce and family law cases involving minor children, the Judge shall order child support payments. Florida law requires child support to be determined using Child Support Guidelines, which is a formula approved by the Florida Legislature.
The child support amount arrived at using the Child Support Guidelines is based on both parents’ income and the number of children. Child support amounts include the costs of medical insurance for the children and childcare. The child support amount may also include the cost of any noncovered medical, dental, and prescription medication expenses of the children.
A parent may be eligible for a reduction in the child support amount based on court determination or by the amount of overnights each parent spends with the children.
